Throwback Thursday

It was 1979 - I was in California, San Jose to be exact.
We raced our bikes up and down the west coast.
This picture was taken at the Hellyer Park Velodrome, San Jose.
I rider fell in front of me and I had no where to go,
except over the top.
I was 29 and had hair.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

Throwback Thursday - an ocassional self indulgent "Look at Me" post.
2006, Sue and I took our once in a lifetime trip to Italy and France.
We met out 20 year old son Andrew in Rome on his first overseas trip.
He celebrated his 21st birthday in snowbound rural Russia, as you do!!!!

We walked and jogged the streets of Rome - great memories.
Sue and Andrew seen here at Ostia Antica - a sort of Pompei, near Rome's airport.
Look it up on Google.

Throwback Thursday

My father Jack on the left, Beryl his sister in the middle and Les his younger brother to the right.
Both Les and Beryl passed away many years back.
My father is now 94 and the oldest surviving member of the family. I guess that makes me the second oldest in our family tree. Scary stuff.

Throwback Thursday

Hard to say what year it was,
certainly in the 50s.
Always had a love of the bike
it took you places, gave you a sense of freedom.
Nothing has changed!

I'm several decades on now
but still like to hang out
with the young dudes on the bike.

Throwback Thursday

Today's Throwback Thursday again features our first born.
Being a November baby this photo,
judging by my growth may have been January 86.
I guess I was on annual leave.
He's now 28.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

It was 1985 and our first son Andrew Cameron Sims was born. Today he has a double degree and about to complete his PHD. How quickly does time fly by?

We had not long moved into our 1929 Californian Bungalow house that would be home for the next 30 years. Another son came along two years later - Mitch is somewhere in Holland, then Italy and France. Andrew lived in England for two years and from memory has visited 17 countries in his 28 years.
I wonder where their lust for travel came from?

Big glasses and our first born boy, Andrew Cameron James
Possibly a year later the boy had grown and we were off to our first little holiday - the car was packed and ready to go.

Throwback Thursday

It must have been late 1970s when my daughter Carly and I jumped into one of those railway station booths where they take your money then take your photos - if you're lucky. We were lucky.
Carly is now 40 years old and still as cute as she was back then.
As for me!!!!
My glasses are thicker and my hair is thinner.
Do I hear laughter in the distance?

The photo is not fuzzy - its my eyes.

Throwback Thursday

At a very early age, I discovered the bike. Since, its always been part of my life.
It's brought friends my way, it's offered travels and experiences beyond belief.
The bike has given me time to think over 1000's of kilometres.
Therapy coming at a very low cost.
The bike and the scenery, the smells of the four seasons, the conversations with friends,
The many coffees - the bike is my friend.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

It must have been in the mid 50s when Sue and I passed by each other without noticing - like two ships passing in the night. We both sat on Santa's knee at the Myer Emporium. We had no idea until 25 years later as we shared each other's photos that this possible chance meeting could possibly have occurred.

After a failed marriage each, we met on a blind date - Sue with her guide dog and me with a white cane - no not really, just jokin'.

So after this possible early pass by while meeting Santa, 30 years later we decided to have our photo taken together (at our wedding).

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday is not about me, but my Mother and Father.
Jack is 93 and Meryl, my mother, my father's wife married in the late 40s, they bought a home in the working class suburb northern of Melbourne. They made a life for themselves for themselves with my sister and I.
Meryl passed away in 1978 and Jack naturally still holds a special spot in his heart after 36 years without his soul mate.
I guess we will all experience the same loss in our lives sometime - some day.

Throwback Thursday with apologies to Walt in the Loire

A friend of Sue and I, a fellow Blogger does a thing called Throwback Thursday. Walt has a quirky sense of humor that appeals to us - I just thought I might do a Throwback  Thursday myself. Some may think that I may border on plagiarism but I prefer to call it a sign of admiration.

They called me young Winston as a child - maybe it was the cigars I smoked at the time!!!
Pop into Walt's Blog and enjoy his quirky humor.

And here's one of Walt when we presented him with a T-shirt from a photo he posted on his blog.
