Wednesdays in ITALY

Back in 2006, we took our "Once in a Lifetime" holiday to France and Italy
Little did we know at the time that we would return many times to France
We never did go back to Italy despite its charms
But in 2014 - all going well, we'll be back.
So - for a little while
Wednesdays in France
will become
Wednesdays in Italy.

We aim to return to Tuscany with friends and our bikes to ride the L' Eroica - Strada Bianca.
The white roads of Tuscany.

As we passed the French border from Menton,
we drove to Viareggio not far from Lucca in Tuscany.
The son of the owners in the hotel where we stayed
had been to Australia several times.

Only 15 months before we return to France and Italy.

  1. I fully understand that you are looking forward to your next trip to Italy and France. I've just returned from a week in the Loire Valley, visiting, partying and catching up with local friends. I hope you'll have as much fun as I had ... but 15 months seems like an awful long time :(!!! Martine

P.S. You may have noticed that I closed my blog in an attempt to mislead a local stalker. So far, it seems to have worked. But I'm careful and have re-opened the blog without the archive, which contained some posts that might point to my home. Hope you will be visiting the 'slimmed downded' version too.

    1. Ladybird - yes 15 months is a long time but it also takes a long time to get to your part of the world (and well worth it) not to mention the cost, around $4500 for the both of us.
Sad to hear that there are some not so nice people out there. We added word verification again due to some fairly irritating spam.
Nice to hear from you again.

  3. Lucky devils *sigh*.

I have been to Italy many times since my first travel overseas in 1966. But I am finding that it is most satisfying to spend whatever number of weeks are available in a very limited area. Last year it was Rome, Elba, Corsica (Fr) and Sardinia. Five years ago it was Naples and all the way south to Sicily.

Otherwise I get too flustered and don't maximise the pleasure and learning.

    1. I guess we are a bit the same - and you meet more of the locals by staying within the region. Our 2014 trip will be Tuscany and the Loire.
Whenever I do a post on some historic point of melbourne I often think that I should ask your help.
Your posts are so interesting and informative.

  4. I have never been to Italy, so shall look forward to 'seeing' it through your eyes! But that video: I assumed it was about the Tour de France, but sort of changed my mind as the vid progressed!

    1. Hello there Vera - you keep popping up lately, that's nice. The Vid was of old blokes pretending to be famous cyclists of past years in Italy. I want to go there next year and revisit Tuscany.

    1. Was that your first time to Italy.
We have a great Italian community in Melbourne and their legacy of food and wine (and concrete)is part of our lifestyle these days.
Oh, yes - and there is the Greeks as well.
      The Lucky Country we are.

  6. A dirty weekend in Rome when I was very young (it doesn't bring back fond memories)!
