I just needed to get away from work for awhile - Sue noticed, so she organised a long weekend away.
Warrnambool is on the Victorian south west coast. Migrating whales frolic near Warrnambool's beaches as they head south. It is the home of one of the worlds oldest one day bike races - the Melbourne to Warrnambool. I rode it a few times in my younger years. Only 245 kms.
It holds an annual steeplechase race - not so popular these days with those who are not into horse racing.
Today it has a population of 34,000 and is a growing community. Might even be a place to consider for retirement - we'll see.
We'll tell you more about Warrnambool on Monday - it will be full of stories about the history, food, wine and activities. Can't wait to take off in the morning.

Hope we get the chance to see a Southern Right Whale this weekend at Warrnambool. |
Spouse and I went there years ago to see the Mary Rose Exhibition which was beautifully done. Last year the same Warrnambool Gallery had an Invasion Exhibition. I love weekends in the country with a theme :)
ReplyDeleteTell you more Monday Hels coz its been a most fantastic weekend so far
DeleteSounds like a lovely place to spend some time in. Would love to whale watch, could sit for hours just watching the ocean and the wild life that live in and on it. Have to make do with our busy river!
ReplyDeleteTonight at dinner we discussed you and Hubby and how interesting life must be for you both in rural France. I talked about having a dog again and sue said, " how could we visit France again with pets at home".
DeleteWe do like to take off occasionally and don't tell any one else but we did see whales.
Have a good and restful weekend guys. Look forward to hearing all about it.
ReplyDeleteCraig - there is toooo much to post - so far its been such a fantastic weekend that I'm afraid that you might just have to make a good strong cup of tea and spend some time reading our post.
DeleteI'd love to go whale spotting. Unfortunately, we don't have any in the North Sea, except for the occasional lost one that ends up dead on the beach, where it becomes a smelly tourist attraction until it's cut up and taken away.
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoy your little outing! Have fun and relax! Martine
Thanks Martine - we are relaxing with a glass of port in hand after dinner. I think it could be a nice life down here in the south west of Victoria.
DeleteMore on Monday.
I meant to write: I hope you are enjoying ...
