It was Wednesday - I'd posted Wednesdays in France when we heard that storms were approaching Melbourne. We followed the course of the storm on the BOM internet chart - it looked like the heavens were about to open. And they did!!!
The sky looked peaceful but it was the calm before the storm. |
I'd actually seen a few birds enjoying drifting on the thermals created by the impending storm but this Magpie sat with prepidation on the power wires outside our house. |
The the sky darkened with the afternoon spring sun was trying to penetrate the dark clouds. |
Those dark clouds are hanging out just over Port Phillip Bay on Mentone Beach. |
And closing in - low fluffy clouds moved at a faster rate below those dark angry ones. |
Then the rains came - it was estimated that some areas of the state would have up to 100 mm or 4 inches rainfall. |
Our cars were dumped upon and then the hail came, fortunately without damage. |
Oops missed this one so I am late :) Great photos of the storm. I always panic when it hails I have seen too many hail damaged cars in S. Africa. Hail storms here are also pretty violent at times also. Enjoy your weekend job :))) Diane
ReplyDeleteRain is good - it makes things grow- except for me.
ReplyDeleteA little while bach we had hail damage to cars in melbourne but fortunately not to our cars.
I have been to France but only for a couple of days, in Paris. I love French croissants. I have always dreamt of going to Australia but the flight from Italy is too long, I think something like 24hrs! I am following you from Rome, Italy!

ReplyDeleteI saw pictures of your storm on the internet. Pretty amazing! It is supposed to rain in Los Angeles saturday (but now they are not so sure it will). We are keeping our fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteCiccia - welcome to our blog.
ReplyDeleteMany Italians didn't just dream of coming to Australia, they did come and made Melourne richer because of their culture. Melbourne has a wonderful Italian influence with food, wine and their general lust for life.
Hope to hear from you more often.
Nadege - we followed the storm on our internet radar. Some very dark colors that were on the screen as well as out the window. It was a short lived storm and as I sit here typing, sunlight is streaming thru my study window.
