Well its now all over and we can stop boring you with our home renovations. The Auction was on Saturday at 1.30 pm and 15 mins later it went under the hammer. Next thing we know our auctioneer had exceeded our reserve price by 20%. This makes our plans for retirement very doable.
It was quite a few stressful days of pondering over the various scenarios. What would it sell for, how much will we have available to build, and how much can we put away with our current retirement funds. Now we can relax and plan for the future.
The really nice thing is that the new owners are just like us when we made this house, our home. They are a young couple (30 somethings) with two primary school children. I'm sure they will breath new life into this home using their own personality.

Scenes from an Auction
All these B&W pics taken by our good friend Ell - Photographer of note.
One of the many friends that lent their support in labor and moral support over the many months to have our home ready for this Saturday's auction.
Congratulations, now looking forward to seeing your new home build. Keep well Diane and Nigel xx
ReplyDeleteThanks D&N - it's been a wild six months and now we are finally back in control of our own planning for the future. Hopefully that will include saying hello to you both again in person. We may need to change our blog title soon. Can'y wait for the change.
DeleteCongratulations. Your hard work to prepare the house has been worthwhile. You can now continue with your plans for the future.
ReplyDeleteHow long before you have to move out?
Gaynor - we have a 60 day settlement and with a 90 day settlement on our block of land, it all comes together perfectly. We are looking at renting over the next 12 months while building and our funds invested will well and truly cover rental costs. So now for the simple stuff, find a plan, find a builder, battle with the local shire and all those unknown difficulties of building a dream home that can turn to a nightmare......I'm sure it will all work out well. Thank you for following us thru this journey of ours.
DeleteWell done! I am sure you have had many sleepless nights since commiting to your land purchase. Now you can really plan.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for your new adventures.
regards Janine
Thanks Janine and we have enjoyed you being along with us thru the various episodes. The adventures begin - stay tuned.
DeleteWell done. Renovating is tough enough, but the sales period and auction put everyone in a tense situation. Love that big, bold, red sold sticker!
ReplyDeleteSpot on about the tension Hels. Yes, the sticker is even more satisfying with the over expected result. Our Real Estate man rang Sue today just for a chat as he was just as thrilled with the result as we were. We were so fortunate to have picked a person that fitted with us and gave us his very best in more ways than the actual sale. Very rare today.
DeleteCongratulations! On to the next phase...
ReplyDeleteTa - Walt. Lots of decisions to make for the future now. I'm sure there's another visit to the Loire in there somewhere.
DeleteSad times for Paris - hard to comprehend why.
Congratulations.....and onwards to a new life....
ReplyDeleteThanks Vera - off to Rural Victoria after Xmas.
DeleteI'm astonished that the auction was conducted right outside the house.....I imagined it would be in an auction room somewhere!
