A few weeks back we took a trip to the Murray river which is a natural border between New South Wales and Victoria. The annual national Citroen gathering was being held at the river port town of Echuca. The river was the transport means to the various towns along the river with paddle steamers and barges. As the railways grew, so the paddle steamers vanished. Today however, the paddle steamers are the main source of tourist income in Echuca.
Note the colour of the river - with the drought, green algae has caused the river sports to be curtailed.
